Many of people try so hard to lose weight but don't understand what is needed. We try diet after diet to only regain all the weight and more. We complain about premature aging, expanding waistlines, decreasing energy and libido, increasing occurrences of constipation and heartburn.

In November 2013, Gallup reported that the adult obesity rate in 2013 was 27.2%, and was on pace to surpass all annual average obesity rates since Gallup-Healthways began tracking in 2008.

Why is it so hard for people to lose weight and keep it off? Why are so many Americans overweight?

The number one reason why so many Americans are overweight is because of the "American" Lifestyle. There is:

1. Constant consumption of unhealthy food,
2. Many are too busy to eat, sleep or exercise,
3. Many are too tired to cook a well-balanced meal,
4. Healthy foods are more costly and takes time to prepare,
5. There is an over-reliance on processed foods,
6. We live in a "Convenience Nation" (Drive-through Country) which causes less physical activity in day to day life.

The "American" lifestyle makes it hard to lose weight and keep it off.

Most weight loss diets work for a period of time but are not sustainable. To lose weight and keep it off, a lifestyle change is necessary. We hear of many low-carb diets, cleanse programs, raw food diets, that work but are not sustainable. Many of us have a dependence on unhealthy food, so are reluctant to make a complete lifestyle change. A partial change goes a long way in losing weight. There are many small changes that can be made like:

  •  Taking the stairs at work instead of the elevator 
  •  Switching out a high calorie snack for an apple 
  •  Switching to organic foods 
  •  Switching out soda for water 
  •  Eating breakfast and 5 other times throughout the day 
  •  Avoiding MSG and artificial sweeteners 
  •  Adding a fresh green salad to meals
